Business problem

Previous development company was slow, with poor communication.

Solution

Regular onsite meetings, and a developer working 2 days per week at their office.

Outcome

Turnaround time for new features was greatly reduced.

Background

Opteon is a large collection of franchises that provide property valuation services across Australia. Prior to 1 July 2011, Opteon Sydney was known as Addisions Valuations.

The online application manages property valuations. It was originally developed by another Sydney development company. Management became frustrated with the lack of progress and the poor communication with that vendor.

For every new feature request and bug fix there were lengthy emails, which led to misunderstandings and rework. Email was not an effective way to manage the work.

Application features

MYOB integration

Integration with the MYOB accounting system.

PDF reports

PDF report generation for valuations.

SMS reminders

SMS reminders to valuation agents.

Excel reporting

Excel-based reporting.

The CoSource solution

By sitting down with the directors and talking through the current solution, it was clear the problem was communication with the previous vendor.

CoSource proposed that a developer work with them 2 days per week at their office. That did two things:

1

They could budget their costs against a fixed 2-day week.

2

Turnaround for features and bug fixes was quicker, because working on site removed the communication barrier.
